Whilst most clients favour the Swiss franc, banks offer accounts in all currencies. Additional services include mail retaining, credit cards and online access. Due to stringent money laundering laws to open an account an application form must be completed and the account applicant identified personally by a bank employee. If a client cannot travel to Switzerland then for identification purposes it is practical to use international Swiss banks (for example: Credit Suisse or UBS) because they have branches in most countries. A notary can also identify the client but in all cases an original valid passport or identity card with photo and signature is required for the identification. The source and beneficial owner of the money will also be checked.
